The newly appointed Ethiopian Ambassador H.E. Aster Mamo presented her credential to the Governor General and Commander -in-chief of Canada Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette on January 29, 2018 at her residence at the Rideau Hall in Ottawa.
On the occasion, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Julie Payette said she proudly welcomes the Ambassador from a country where all human species originate as Ethiopia is the cradle of humanity and the country that is so rich in its culture heritage, past and present. The Right Honourable Julie Payette also stated that Canada attaches significant importance to its partnership with Ethiopia as the second most populous country in Africa and praised the incredible economic progress that it has registered over the past years and for dramatically changing the quality and well-being of its own people. She reiterated Canada's continues support to realize the country’s development and democratic goals. On her part, H.E. Ambassador Aster Mamo expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome accorded to her and emphasized that she will work to further cement and broaden the two countries bilateral relation as the top priorities of her mission.
Ethiopia and Canada have long standing diplomatic relations that dates back to 1965 G.C and they enjoy excellent relations in the areas of development cooperation and growing investment and trade ties. They work together with the spirit of friendship and mutual respect in the areas of their common interest.
